December 15, 1999

WILLIAMSPORT - Unionized employees of CertainTeed Corp. were voting on a new contract Wednesday, according to plant manager Jeffrey Smith.

A new agreement, applying only to the 364 workers at the company's Washington County facilities, was negotiated to replace the union's 5-year agreement, which expired Wednesday, Smith said.

The workers are members of the Cement Lime and Gypsum Allied Workers Division of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers AFL-CIO Local Union D-533, he said.

The company, which produces vinyl siding and other home construction materials, has a manufacturing plant and warehouse on Governor Lane Boulevard in Williamsport and a distribution center on Hopewell Road.
