Crumbs from the Cracker Barrel

December 14, 1999

Growing up on his father's farm in the area of what is now the Dual Highway in Hagerstown, Sharpsburg area resident Keith Meyers well remembers what it was like before a road bisected the 125-acre farm. "One of the few times in my life that I've plowed with a team of horses was a piece of ground where the Tortuga Restaurant now sits. I wasn't very big!" Chambersburg resident Howard Stouffer recalls driving his Massey Harris tractor and combine from the Cearfoss area through downtown Hagerstown to help John Calvin Meyers, his father-in-law, farm the property.
