Dorothy V. Hess

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dorothy V. Fish Hess, 89, of 25 N. Potomac St., and Michaux Manor Living Center, South Mountain, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born April 6, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Florence Gertrude Ward Fish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hess, whom she married Aug. 14, 1937.

She attended Washington County schools.

A seamstress, she worked for E.J. Fennel Garment Factory in Hagerstown, for 30 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Hagerstown; Red Men's Club Ladies Auxiliary, Williamsport; Amalgamated Garment Workers of American Union, Hagerstown Chapter; Democratic Bowling League and E.J. Fennel Bolwing League, both of Hagerstown.


She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Izer of Waynesboro; one son, Robert E. Hess Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Marion E. Fish of Halfway; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her companion of 25 years, Kenneth Barnhart, who died in 1982; one sister, Modena E. Moore; three infant brothers; and one grandson.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. Her granddaughter, the Rev. Deborah S. Rogers, will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Eleanor R. Lehrer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Eleanor Royer Lehrer, 83, of Alexandria, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at her home.

Born Dec. 19, 1915, in Welsh Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Nevin and Ruth Troupe Royer.

She graduated with honors from Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., in 1938; and attended what is now Strayer University in Washington, D.C.

She taught school in Pennsylvania for two years. She had retired from the U.S. Labor Department as a statistician.

She was a founding member of Mount Vernon Unitarian Church, was on the newsletter staff and volunteered with the holiday shop.

In Alexandria, she was a community service volunteer; a member of Tauxemont Community Association; and was active in League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women.

She is survived by her husband, Alexander Lehrer, whom she married in 1947; one daughter, Dana Lehrer Mitchell of Annandale, Va.; two sons, Edward A. Lehrer of Alexandria and David L. Lehrer of Oakland, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Rohrer Seibert of Clear Spring; two brothers, Bill Royer of Syracuse, N.Y., and John Royer of Columbus, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church in Alexandria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one's local American Cancer Society Chapter.

Stella C. Grove

LEETOWN, W.Va. - Stella Chapman Grove, 80, of Leetown, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born May 1, 1919, in Rippon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Viola Lloyd Chapman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton E. Grove, on Oct. 27, 1995.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Leetown United Methodist Church.

She was a former member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Lupton of Double Toll Gate, Va.; three sons, Paul E. Grove and Lawrence N. Grove, both of Leetown, and Alton Richard Grove of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one brother, Robert Chapman of Georgia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Ann Grove; two sisters, Pearl Barron and Gladys Spinks; and one brother, James Chapman.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Revs. Paul Ritter and Charles Frum will officiate. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery, Middleway, Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Genevieve Anspacher

Genevieve Anspacher, 77, formerly of 26 1/2 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 19, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Russell F. and Edna Mae Cromer Cromer.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Lovetta L. Hook

A memorial service for Lovetta L. Hook, 71, of Rock Hill Road, Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
