Briefs: Housing unit in Hancock gets OK

December 08, 1999

The Washington County Commissioners Tuesday approved an agreement with the Washington County Housing Authority for a 25-unit apartment building for the elderly in Hancock.

The agreement was needed so the authority can get $117,250 from the Maryland Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program for the project.

Construction on the $2 million project, the New Monterey House, on Main Street starts in January and will take about one year, Housing Authority Director Richard Willson said.

Two appointed to mental health authority

Sue B. Roney of Fairplay and Charlene K. Lloyd of Hagerstown were appointed to the Washington County Mental Health Authority.

The Washington County Commissioners Tuesday voted unanimously for Roney and Lloyd to fill two vacancies and serve three-year appointments.

The Mental Health Authority board made the two nominations.
