Students at the Marshall Street School in Hagerstown were treated to an afternoon of physical fitness held by Stephanie Walker, a Frostburg University student at the Family Skating Center, in Halfway Tuesday.

About 31 handicapped children, with varying degrees of physical capability participated. For an hour, the students did such exercises as modified kickboxing, square dancing and moves using a latex rubberband for resistance.

The physical education major adapted each of the exercises based on each person's ability so that everyone could take part, she said.

Physical fitness is just as necessary for the handicapped as it is for the able-bodied, said Walker, 24.

"It's important for you mentally and physically," she said.
