Roundhouse gets additional funding

December 02, 1999

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Another check was awarded Thursday for the renovation and purchase of the B&O Roundhouse in Martinsburg.

Del. Vicki Douglas, D-Berkeley, presented a $60,000 check to the Berkeley County Commissioners for the roundhouse.

The money was needed as a local match for a $240,000 federal highways grant that was awarded for the project, Douglas said.

The $60,000 came from Gov. Cecil Underwood's contingency fund.

Douglas said Underwood realized it can be difficult to raise that much money locally. Underwood joked that the county would have "a whole lot of cupcakes to sell" to raise that much, said Douglas.

More than $1 million has been raised for the purchase and renovation of the roundhouse.
