Classic Chevys to rumble into town

November 30, 1999

The 33rd Annual Classic Chevy International and Worldwide Camaro Club Convention will be held July 4-8 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center Antietam Creek.

Approximately 900 club members will gather to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1957 Chevy and the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the Camaro.

The convention will attract owners and aficionados of 1955-1972 Chevys and 1967-2002 Camaros. It is hosted by the Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club and sponsored by Eckler's Classic Chevy International and Worldwide Camaro Club.

The Best Western Grand Venice, Days Inn, and the Quality Inn, all on the Dual Highway, will provide additional hotel rooms for attendees.

"This is a great convention, attracting people from many states," said Tom Riford, tpresident and CEO of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"This will be a very positive impact for our local economy, and the CVB is excited about this convention coming to our county."

"We are excited to welcome so many Chevy Club members for what we hope will be the first of many visits to Hagerstown," said Betsy De Vore, Director of Sales for the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The CVB has been planning for this convention for three years and it will be great to see it all come to fruition."

Convention highlights include a 1,000-point judging of cars, bus trips and "cruises" around the Hagerstown area, as well as technical seminars. The convention kicks off with BBQ party at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park. Attendees will also visit several historic sites in Washington County, including Antietam National Battlefield.
