Two Martinsburg men arrested after armed robbery early today

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ? Two Martinsburg men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred early Friday morning near the intersection of Porter Avenue and West John Street in Martinsburg, police said.

Kevin Hairston, 48, and Leon Yancy, 32, were charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to a press release from the Martinsburg Police Department.

Police said a man was giving Hairston and Yancy a ride just before 6 a.m. Friday morning when the two men demanded money from him.

When the man told Hairston and Yancy he did not have any money, they allegedly grabbed him and struck him multiple times with a hammer-like object, according to a press release.

Police said the two men took the man's wallet and left.

Hairston and Yancy were arrested a short while later by a nearby police officer, according to the press release.

Both men were taken to Eastern Regional Jail.
