Citicorp Credit Services to hire about 200

November 30, 1999|By MATTHEW UMSTEAD

Citicorp Credit Services Inc., Washington County's third largest employer, announced plans Thursday to hire about 200 people, and will hold a recruitment open house Tuesday for prospective job applicants.

"Over the next two months, we will hire nearly 200 employees for our customer contact positions and we need to fill many management positions as well," company President Deb Gorbsky said in a press release.

"We expect a nice infusion of strong talent and leadership potential," Gorbsky said.

It was not immediately clear whether the positions to be filled are newly created.

A company official in June told The Herald-Mail that the financial services company employed about 2,400 people. Employment data compiled by the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission and published in their 2006 Business and Industry Directory showed Citicorp employed 2,600 in December 2005. In the previous survey a year before, they employed 2,640, according to the commission's directory.

The open house will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the company's facility at 14700 Citicorp Drive, just north of Hagerstown off Interstate 81.

Potential employees may attend test sessions, take tours of the campus and interview.

Gorbsky touted some of the company's employee benefits in making the hiring announcement.

"We have a lot of fun activities and we offer excellent benefits that are effective on your first day," said Gorbsky, noting the company's on-site wellness and family centers.

Citicorp Credit Services is part of Citigroup, which has 200 million customer accounts and conducts business in more than 100 countries.

The Hagerstown center is one of the largest of 30 or so facilities operated by Citigroup in the nation, officials have said. More than 99 percent of operations there support Citigroup's credit card business.

The company celebrated its 20th year in Washington County in June.
