Local E. coli death investigation continues

Maryland health officials said Friday they have confirmed the state's first three spinach-related E. coli illnesses, but haven't concluded whether a Washington County woman's death was connected to a nationwide outbreak. A Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene spokesman said the department has received a tissue sample from the Washington County woman and samples of the spinach package from which she ate shortly before she got sick, and it probably would take about a week for test results to be ready.
