MCI inmate stabbed multiple times - UPDATE

November 30, 1999

An inmate at Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown was stabbed several times Tuesday night in a yard at the prison, according to George Gregory, a spokesman for the Maryland Division of Correction.

Gregory said the DOC is not releasing the inmate's name because the stabbing is under investigation.

A correctional officer did not see the stabbing, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m., but found the 23-year-old inmate with several puncture wounds, Gregory said.

The inmate was in stable condition at Washington County Hospital this morning, Gregory said.

He said authorities do not know who stabbed the inmate, but the yard was locked down and a homemade weapon was found.

The inmate who was stabbed was serving a three-year sentence on charges of possession of drugs with intent to distribute and possession of weapons, Gregory said.
