HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. ? One person was killed Thursday night when a vehicle struck a tree on Back Creek Valley Road, West Virginia State Police said.

The accident was reported about 8:45 p.m. in the 13200 block Back Creek Valley Road in the Tomahawk community, a Berkeley County emergency services dispatch supervisor said.

Police still were trying to identify the victim, who was not carrying identification, about 11 p.m., trooper J.S. Chumley said.

No other vehicles were involved, he said.

Chumley said it was foggy out, but he did not know whether that contributed to the accident.

The Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Co. also responded to the accident, the dispatcher said.
