CHARLES TOWN, W.VA. ? Jefferson County Circuit Clerk Patsy Noland announced Thursday she will run for the Kabletown District seat on the Jefferson County Commission next year.
Noland, 61, said one reason why she is running for the seat held by Jefferson County Commissioner Rusty Morgan is because she is concerned about where the county is heading.
Noland, who is running as a Democrat, said she is concerned about the county getting involved in preservation of historic land such as Civil War battlefields and she doesn't agree with the county spending money to create new governmental departments.
Noland said she thinks the county could have added more staff to accomplish their goals rather than creating new departments.
She also said that preservation of historic land is not a role for the county commission.
The commission has been considering ways to preserve a Civil War battlefield near Shepherdstown.
"I am seeking the office of Jefferson County Commissioner because I want to make a difference. I care very much about the future of Jefferson County and our citizens," Noland said in a press release.
