County to honor world AIDS day

November 29, 1999

Washington County will commemorate World AIDS Day on Wednesday with a candlelight vigil in Hagerstown's Public Square.

The vigil will begin at 8 p.m. in front of Frostburg State University, but organizers will set up at 5 p.m. to sell baked goods and carnations to raise money for people with AIDS. Tax-free donations can be made at that time to the nonprofit Washington County AIDS Coalition.

Participants are asked to bring candles for the vigil, which will remember those who have died of the disease and give hope for a cure to survivors, said organizer Tim Miller of the Concerned Citizens of Washington County.

The vigil is being organized by the Concerned Citizens and the Washington County AIDS Coalition.

Other local activities for World AIDS Day include:

* Collection of personal hygiene items, needed for people with HIV and AIDS. Donations are being accepted at the New Light Metropolitan Community Church, 40 W. Church St., Hagerstown.
