Trailer fire suspicious

November 22, 1999

INWOOD, W.Va. - A Sunday night fire that destroyed a vacant mobile home near Harranda Acres mobile home park is suspicious, a fire official said.

However, fire officials say they do not think the fire is related to other recent fires they suspect may have been intentionally set, including one that destroyed a mobile home in Arden, said Deputy Chief Richard Petry with South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co.

The cause of Sunday night's fire had not been determined, Petry said. The mobile home was not in use and was not hooked up to electrical service, he said.

Petry estimated the damage to be between $15,000 and $20,000.

"It was falling down as we pulled up," Petry said. The mobile home off Franks Road northwest of Inwood was fully engulfed and about one-fourth of a wooded acre was burned, he said.

Firefighters responded to the call shortly after 7 p.m. and had the fire under control within three minutes.

The 1972 model mobile home belonging to Harry Franks Jr. is not part of the adjacent Harranda Acres mobile home park, Petry said.

West Virginia State Police also responded because there were neighbors arguing nearby, Petry said, adding the argument turned out to be unrelated to the fire.
