November 22, 1999

BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - A Frederick County, Md., man died after being hit in the head by a tree he was moving with a bulldozer Sunday morning, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

Charles Augustus Bartholow, 63, of South Jefferson Street was pronounced dead at Frederick Memorial Hospital shortly after the accident, police said.

Police said Bartholow was operating a bulldozer at a construction site at 4524 Burkittsville Road around 7:19 a.m.

Bartholow was pushing trees and debris with the machine when a tree apparently fell backwards onto the bulldozer, hitting him on the head, police said.

An ambulance took Bartholow to the Frederick Memorial Hospital.
