A garage was damaged in a Monday morning fire on Oak Springs Road near Maugansville, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The blaze was discovered by a neighbor around 10 a.m. after he heard an explosion and went to check it out, investigators said.

The detached garage contained several aerosol cans that may have caused the explosion, said Maugansville Fire Department Lt. Steve Eby.

Firefighters brought the blaze at 14255 Oak Springs Road under control within 15 minutes, he said.

"It was totally destroyed," said Eby.

The structure is owned by Elizabeth IIeare.

Damages were estimated at $10,000 and were confined to the garage and the items stored inside, investigators said.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 2:30 p.m., said Eby.

Deputy State Fire Marshals were continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Personnel from Long Meadow, Maugansville, Washington County Regional Airport, Washington County Air Unit, Community Rescue Service and the Washington County Rehab Unit went to the fire.
