Hunter found dead near tree stand

November 09, 1999

CLEAR SPRING, Md. - A West Virginia man was found dead Monday just below a hunter's tree stand on his son's farm in the 9000 block of the National Pike near Licking Creek, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Evan Francis Teach, 71, of Ditto Farms Drive, Falling Waters, W.Va., was found by his son, William Jacob Teach, in the early evening, according to Susan O'Brien, a DNR spokesman.

The 911 call went in to Washington County Fire and Rescue Communications as a cardiac arrest. Clear Spring fire and rescue personnel were dispatched at 5:57 p.m., according to 911 records.

O'Brien said Evan Teach was found below a 16-foot tree stand he apparently had been using while hunting alone Monday.

An autopsy will be performed to determine if death was caused by a heart attack or a fall from the tree stand, O'Brien said.
