Wounded man charged with domestic battery

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man has been charged with domestic battery relating to an incident last week in which he was shot, according to records in Berkeley County Magistrate Court.

Christopher Custer, 28, of 902 N. Third St., was charged on Monday with domestic battery, court records state.

Custer was shot in the chest on Nov. 1 at his home.

Custer was in fair condition at City Hospital on Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

His brother-in-law, Joseph G. Hendrickson, 25, same address, was charged with malicious wounding and released on $2,500 bond last week, police said.

Custer's sister, Holly Hendrickson, 23, was talking to Custer that evening about paying more on his weekly rent when Custer allegedly pushed his sister, knocking her to the floor at least twice, court records state.

Hearing the fight, Hendrickson's husband, Joseph, came downstairs into the living room where he argued with Custer and allegedly shot him in the chest area, court records state.
