Donations sought for fire victim

November 06, 1999

A Hagerstown resident's losses in a fire Thursday included a large crystal collection, her dog and mementos of her late husband, a friend said.

Teresa Boward and her 15-year-old daughter are staying with an aunt in Hagerstown following the fire at 134 N. Locust St. about noon Thursday, which heavily damaged half of a duplex she owned and lived in.

Boward lost all her belongings in the fire and is in need of food such as spices and flour, said friend Marlene Nigh. Anyone wanting to donate food to Boward can call Nigh at 301-791-0321.

The fire is under investigation by the Hagerstown Fire Department.

"It started in the living room of the 134 side," said Fire Marshal John Hersh.

Light smoke was the only damage at 132 N. Locust St. where a sleeping resident was awakened at 11:47 a.m. by his smoke detector.
