"To those of you who would like to be removed from the telemarketing and the mailing list, please write to the following: For the telemarketing list write to: Direct Marketing Association, Telephone Preference Service, P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale, N.Y. 11735-9014. To be removed from the mailing list write to: Direct Marketing Association, Mail Preference Service, P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale, N.Y. 11735-9008."

"Last Thursday and Friday evening, the Sophisti'Cats, a choral group under the direction of Ruth Ridenour at Williamsport High School, put on a spectacular show. The students in the group have wonderful training and it is apparent that they enjoy what they are doing. They look so professional. How fortunate for them to have the opportunity to be taught by such a dedicated teacher and have the support of their families as well as the school personnel. Congratulations, Sophisti'Cats for a very entertaining evening."

"They finally blacktoped Hospital Hill and got rid of the terrible blacktop. Now, as you know we are never satisfied, when are they going to fix the railroad tracks at the tannery?"

"I want to explain the shortage of caterpillars in a low number of entries in the woolly bear contest. First of all, the drought had nothing to do with it. I was a main contributor to the contest in 1998. I travel the secondary roads extensively for many miles during caterpillar season. For the whole month of September, this year, I saw as many caterpillars as I did last October. This October I saw very few. Extending the deadline to Nov. 15 won't make any difference."

"Will the former SPCA, now called the Humane Society, be a no-kill organization in their new $2 million dollar planned building?"

"This is in regards to the caller who wanted to know the meaning of .com. That is part of the way the Internet operates using Internet addresses. For example, The Herald-Mail address is The www is for World Wide Web, The Herald-Mail is the user and the .com identifies the Web site type, which is a commercial site. There are also other ones like .edu for universities or schools, meaning education; .net for Internet service providers; .gov for government sites; .org for organizations for non-profit organizations and .mil for military sites. Just a way for computers to identify certain addresses electronically."

"A caller complained about getting calls from the telemarketers. There is no end to these calls. If you make a complaint to the phone company, they say that there is nothing they can do about it. But if you check your phone bill after dialing *69 you find out that the phone company very conveniently places a charge on the phone bill. What you have to do is threaten the phone company to give up your phone if they don't put a stop to it. I found that you get a whole lot less calls."

"Congratulations to the South High freshman football team. Your winning season is something to be proud of. Great job, freshman coaches."

"In response to the individual who called and criticized the principal at North High, Mr. Reeder, for what happened at the school. Certainly, Mr. Reeder nor the school system should be blamed for this. The judicial system that allowed this person out is to blame. There is nothing that the schools can do to prevent this. We don't harbor these criminals in our schools. This could have happened anywhere. I just feel so sorry for this child. Let's not throw the blame around."

"Call your phone company and they will tap your phone and find out who they are. It is against the law for these telemarketers to call you up if you ask them not to. They can be fined a lot of money for bothering people. Call the phone company, get the tap, it is time to stop these harassing calls. I am sick of it and my phone is tapped."

"Now hear this, well known basketball star arrested for drunken driving and running three red lights, found not guilty. Well known baseball star, millionaire, busted twice with crack cocaine and prostitution, how come he is playing in the World Series? How come an average citizen is caught for a few ounces of cocaine, fined $500 and gets one year in jail? I don't like drugs, but doesn't that tell you that money does pay?"

"South High freshmen football players and coaches are great."

"I was reading the Sports section on Monday, Nov. 1, and it says that 'Payton reportedly OK.' Well, you blew it on that one. He passed away today."

"The person who wanted to know the name of the person who trims trees on Jefferson Boulevard, well the name of the business is Preferred Arbor Care and his name is Jamie Mowery."
