Mary L. Roby

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Mary Lou Roby, 71, of Falls Church, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Arlington (Va.) Hospital.

Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Louis F. and Mary Logan Leech.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She attended public schools in the District of Columbia.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Sheetmetal Workers Union Local No. 2; she was a homemaker.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Somerset Dyson "Sam" Roby; a daughter, Karen L. Recknor of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Robert Leech of Deale Island, Md.; nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Leech; and a brother, Richard Leech.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at noon at Glenwood Cemetery, 2219 Lincoln Road, N.E., Washington D.C. The Rev. Joseph Catrombone will officiate.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Earl J. Hege

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Earl Jacob Hege, 48, of 3966 Funk Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

Born Nov. 23, 1950, in Dayton, Va., he was the son of the late Paul and Catherine Heatwole Hege.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Culbertson Mennonite Church of Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Good Hostetter Hege, whom he married Nov. 27, 1971; four daughters, Anna Miller of Chambersburg, Sara Hege, Dorcas Hege and Martha Hege, all at home; five sons, Reuben Hege of Shippensburg, Pa., Simeon Hege and Joel Hege, both of Chambersburg, and Jason Hege and James Hege, both at home; four sisters, Esther Rodes of Virginia, Freda King of Myerstown, Pa., Martha Steiner of Wisconsin and Mary Coblentz of Ohio; three brothers, Harold Hege of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Marlin Hege of Keymar, Md., and Luke Hege of East Berlin, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Culbertson Mennonite Church in Chambersburg. Isaac K. Sensenig, H. Lynn Martin, Wayne L. Shank and LaRay P. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Culbertson Mennonite Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Culbertson Mennonite Church; and Friday at 9 a.m. at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home of Chambersburg.

Frances L. Price

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Frances Lorraine Price, 70, of 307 Potomac Terrace, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at her home.

Born July 29, 1929, in Silver Grove, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Herbert Franklin Sr. and Grace Virginia Bussard Cogle.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester W. Longerbeam.

She was a member of Church of the First Born in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

She is survived by her second husband, W. O. Price; a daughter, Edith Kidwiler of West Ridge Hills, W.Va.; two sons, Leroy Longerbeam of Keedysville and Marshall Longerbeam of West Ridge Hills; three sisters, Gloria Grove, Gladys Gifft and Shirley Long, all of Silver Grove; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Cogle; five brothers, Frank Cogle, Russell Cogle, Luther Cogle, Ralph Cogle and Richard Cogle; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. David A. Palmer will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marjorie J. Shirey

MAUGANSVILLE - Marjorie Juanita Shirey, 75, of 17937 Leona Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Berkeley Junction, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Levi Rose and Nora Jeanette Fisher Benner.

She was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a graduate of Hagerstown Junior College; and Shepherd College.

She was one of the original Crossing Guards for county schools. She was a second grade teacher for Washington County schools.

She was a member of Valley Grace Brethren Church, a Sunday school superintendent, secretary and treasurer; taught at Grace Church Camp, and Bible school. She was a member of Women's Missionary Council; and Sisterhood of Mary and Martha.

She is survived by her husband, Ray E. Shirey; three daughters, Rayetta Schindel and Rebecca Collinson, both of Hagerstown, and Vickie DeArmey of Lyon, France; a son, Robin Shirey of Hagerstown; two sisters, Madalene Dixon of Hagerstown and Iva Donavan of Brunswick, Md.; a brother, Gilbert Benner of Boonsboro; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Valley Grace Brethren Church, 2275 Gay St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel J. Pritchett will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.
