Man found in Va. search still being held

WINCHESTER, Va. - A Winchester man remained held without bond Sunday night after a City of Winchester police sergeant was killed in the line of duty later Friday, according to authorities in Winchester.

Sgt. Ricky L. Timbrook, 32, was in pursuit of a crime suspect in the area of East Piccadilly Street and East Lane at the time of the shooting, according to police.

At 11:49 p.m., Timbrook radioed he was in a foot pursuit. Minutes later, there was a call that shots had been fired in the 300 block of Piccadilly Street.

Timbrook was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a walkway between 301 and 303 E. Piccadilly St., according to police.

He was pronounced dead at Winchester Medical Center at 12:25 a.m. Saturday.

Residents were evacuated from the area of the shooting and police conducted a house-to-house search that lasted about five hours, police said.

A second search was started at about 7 a.m. and police alleged a man was found hiding in the basement of a home at 305 E. Piccadilly St.

Edward Nathaniel Bell, 35, of Winchester, was charged with burglary and was being held at Clarke-Frederick-Winchester Regional Jail.
