Cancer Society plans 'Grand Sunday Brunch'

November 01, 1999

The Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society will honor Frank Turner when it holds its 11th annual Grand Sunday Brunch Nov. 7.

Feasting, fun and fund-raising are on the menu for the event at the Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom. Last year's brunch raised $19,652 for the cancer society, which provides services to cancer patients and their families throughout the county.

Turner, a businessman and longtime resident, has donated the use of the Ramada Inn's convention center to the cancer society several times. He sponsored the Relay for Life Cancer Survivor Reception for the past four years as a memorial to his late wife Betty, who died from cancer.

Tickets for the annual brunch are $25 and $6 for children ages 3 to 10 and the event is also a silent auction. This year's items include two round-trip domestic airline tickets, baseballs autographed by Baltimore Orioles Mike Messina and Cal Ripken and a crystal pin and earrings.

The event features magicians, face painting, music by "Easy Listenin'" and balloon sculptures. Brunch begins at 10:30 a.m. and the program lasts through 2 p.m. For more information, call 301-733-8272.
