A Hagerstown man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for robbery by Washington County Circuit Judge Don Beachley in connection with a downtown purse snatching.
Gerry Dean Massey was given credit for the time he has served in jail since the May 22 incident in the parking lot of the Hagerstown City Market.
According to court records, a Hagerstown City Police officer on patrol in the first block of West Church Street saw people running and went to investigate.
As the officer approached, two men were holding down another man and waiting for the officer, court records said.
The investigation revealed one of the two men had earlier heard a woman screaming in the market lot and went to see what was happening, court records said.
