Home Q&A

Hagerstown reader Lori Schiano called us in the midst of a laundry crisis. With an infant at home, she has plenty of stains to treat. The Spray 'n Wash stick she was using worked well. Then she switched to Clorox 2 Bleach-Free and the stains from the baby's clothes transferred to those of the young adults and adults in her home.

Jim Campbell, vice president of sales for Mary Ellen Home Care Products in Minneapolis, has two suggestions:

* Mix Borax with enough water to make a pasty consistency. Apply the paste to the stains.

* Combine white vinegar and water at a 50-50 ratio and apply to stain.

After applying either of these stain removers, rinse well and wash.

Campbell recommends, too, that the stained clothing be washed separately from other items to prevent further spreading.
