INWOOD, W.Va. - A Martinsburg, W.Va., woman was charged in connection with the death of an Inwood woman in a car accident during the weekend, according to West Virginia State Police.

Rachel Schoppert, 25, of Berkeley Station Road, was charged with failure to stop to avoid a collision, said Sgt. Deke Walker of the Martinsburg Interstate Patrol.

Patsy Stewart, 51, died in the accident in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the Spring Mills Road exit Saturday, police said.

Stewart and Selena Gibbons, a Spring Run, Pa., resident driving a Ford Tempo in front of Stewart's 1995 Ford Escort, were stopped in traffic because of road construction around 1 p.m., police said.

A 1994 Toyota 4Runner failed to stop, rear-ending Stewart's Escort and causing major damage, police said.

Gibbons and the passengers in her vehicle were not injured, Walker said.

Schoppert was taken to Washington County Hospital where she was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Stewart's passenger and daughter, Brandy, 25, also was treated and released from a hospital, Walker said.
