Red Cross sets up shelters

The American Red Cross still has 12 shelters open in Maryland and Delaware for people who are unable to stay in their homes due to damage from Hurricane Floyd, the agency announced Saturday.

Residents who need assistance should contact their local Red Cross Emergency Services Department for assistance. In Washington County the Red Cross telephone number is 301-739-0717.

Since the storm hit the area, the Red Cross has opened 37 shelters in Maryland and Delaware, helping more than 830 people and serving almost 2,000 hot meals, according to the agency.

The Red Cross is also seeking contributions.
