Hospital to host annual health fair Saturday

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Hospital's second annual health fair will take place Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the hospital. This year's slogan is "Harvesting Good Health." The event features more than 27 free screenings, including cholesterol, heart rate, lung function, stroke, oximetry, depression, anxiety and eating disorders, vision, hearing and osteoporosis. Participants can register for free screenings.

There will be free handouts, door prizes, demonstrations and displays.

Children's activities include a teddy bear clinic, face painting and fingerprinting. Parents can bring their child's immunization record for review and recommendations.

There will be a "brown bag" discussion with a pharmacist. Participants should bring current and old medications. The hospital is offering a low-cost lunch on the parking deck, and refreshments will be sold throughout the day.

Pediatrician to speak on health issues for youth

Pediatrician Julia D. Oakley will speak on "The Top 10 Health Issues for Youth at the Millennium" Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. at Robinwood Medical Center, Conference Center, Suite 122 A and B, 11110 Medical Campus Road in Hagerstown. Use the blue parking lot and enter at the courtyard entrance.

Weigh Down Workshop orientation set for Thursday

WILLIAMSPORT - Weigh Down Workshop, a program that teaches participants to replace devotion to food with devotion to God, will have a free orientation Thursday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. in Williamsport.

Through this 12-week seminar, participants learn how to stop overeating and dieting. A video lesson is presented each week in class. Participants receive a workbook and a set of 12 audiotapes. This program is for men and women. There is a cost. For information, call Joan Knode at 301-223-7229.

Senior center to hold fall prevention screening

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Chambersburg Hospital, an affiliate of Summit Health, and the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging, are sponsoring a fall prevention screening Thursday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at Waynesboro Senior Center. Participants will identify their risk factors and perform three simple balance tests. Information will be shared with individuals, specific to the results of their screening, on helpful ways to prevent falls.

The program is free and open to senior citizens.
