Fairgrounds now Fairgrounds Park

September 14, 1999

The former Hagerstown Fairgrounds has been renamed Fairgrounds Park, at least temporarily.

Hagerstown's Mayor and City Council approved the new name for the 68-acre fairgrounds on Tuesday.

Work has already begun on the $1.2 million first phase of the fairgrounds project, which includes plans for three soccer fields, three softball fields and an in-line skating rink.

City Public Information Manager Karen Giffin, who is overseeing fund-raising efforts for the fairgrounds project, said she needed an official name for the future park to complete contracts.

Giffin is in the process of selling the naming rights to pieces of the planned park, including possibly selling the official and permanent name of the park.
