Sprinkler head activated at Springfield Middle School

September 09, 1999

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - A sprinkler head activated at Springfield Middle School Thursday morning but firefighters and educators could find no evidence of a fire, a school board spokesman said.

Children and staff were evacuated around 8:30 a.m. after the incident. Williamsport Fire Company personnel and educators teamed up to check the building for a reason why the sprinkler activated, according to Donna Messina, spokeswoman for the Washington County Board of Education.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the decision was made to reopen the school at 334 Sunset Ave. and allow the students to return, Messina said.
