A public meeting about special education services will be held Monday, Sept. 13, at Western Heights Middle School between 5 and 7 p.m.

The Maryland Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs will provide information about early intervention and special education services for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities.

The discussion will focus on access to special education services. USDE/OSEP representatives will ask questions such as, "Are students with disabilities receiving the special education and related services they need" and "How is the State involved in assuring that services are provided to infants and toddlers with disabilities?"

The meetings will break into small groups to encourage all to participate.

Any individual who will need accommodations for a disability, such as interpreting services or assistive listening devices, may call 1-410-767-0624 or 1-800-535-0182.

The state will try to meet requests but cannot guarantee availability of the requested accommodation. The meeting site is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Organizers ask that attendance be confirmed by calling the telephone number above.

Written comments regarding children between the ages 3 and 21 can be submitted at the meeting or sent to Alma McPherson, Office of Special Education Programs, 330 "C" St. SW, Washington D.C. 20202.

For comments regarding infants and toddlers from birth through age 2, write to Claudia M. Brewster at the same address.
