Potomac Valley Properties Inc.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Sally J. Johnston has been named president of Potomac Valley Properties Inc.

She succeeds Ray Johnston, who recently retired.

Ray Johnston is principal owner of Potomac Valley Properties and its subsidiary, The Woods Resort.

He will continue to consult with management and work on special projects.

Sally Johnston has worked for the company for nine years as vice president.

She serves as treasurer of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce and third vice president of the West Virginia Homebuilders Association. She is a past president of the Eastern Panhandle Homebuilders Association.

She is a graduate of Leadership Berkeley and Leadership West Virginia and served for three years as chairwoman of the Leadership Berkeley program.

Johnston is a 1983 graduate of Hedgesville High School. She has a bachelor's degree from American University and a law degree from Cornell Law School.

She is a licensed broker and a member of the West Virginia State Bar.

 

South Central Insurance Association

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The National Association of Insurance Women has presented its National Pinnacle Award to the organization's South Central Insurance Association chapter in Chambersburg.

The award was presented on June 15 at the group's national conference in Las Vegas.

The Chambersburg chapter received a Podium Banner and $500 to fund association projects.

The Pinnacle Award honors a local chapter for excellence in association management, membership development, member programs and service.

The chapter will hold a meeting Sept. 28 at the Quality Inn on Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg.

 

Frederick Crossing Shopping Center

FREDERICK, Md. -

Kohl's Department Store and Best Buy have opened at Frederick Crossing Shopping Center.

Kohl's Department Store, Best Buy and Office Max anchor the 350,000-square foot shopping center next to Wal-Mart at the Interstate 70/Md. 85 interchange.

Kohl's is a Wisconsin-based department store selling men's and women's fashions, home decor items and housewares.

Best Buy, of Eden Prairie, Minn., is a consumer electronics retailer.

Office Max, A.C. Moore, Card and Party Giant, Next Day Blinds, Arby's, Dollar Express and FuncoLand will open this fall.

 

Bitner-Henry Insurance Agency

The Bitner-Henry Insurance Agency in Hagerstown was awarded Brotherhood Mutual Insurance's 5-Star Agency Award, which recognizes outstanding production and profitability.

The honor is the highest awarded by Brotherhood Mutual, a Fort Wayne, Ind.-based insurer of churches and related ministries.

 

Shenandoah's Pride

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Rockingham County, Va., milk cooperative, which produces Shenandoah's Pride milk, is being sold to Suiza Foods Corp. of Dallas.

Suiza is one of the largest dairy producers in the country. The price of the sale isn't being disclosed.

The cooperative, which has a distribution center in Hagerstown, sells milk and ice cream products in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

Real Estate Brokerage Managers Council

Clarence Horst of Hagerstown has been awarded the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager designation by the Real Estate Brokerage Managers Council.

The Real Estate Brokerage Managers Council, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, is the professional organization for brokerage management.

 

Cumberland Valley Family Physicians

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dr. Todd V. Peterson recently joined Cumberland Valley Family Physicians, an affiliate of Summit Health.

Peterson specializes in obstetrics and sports medicine. He is certified as a licensed physical therapist in Pennsylvania.

 

Washington County Health Department

Susan Creel, a receptionist in the Billing and Registration Office at the Washington County Health Department, has been named the agency's Employee of the Month for June.

Creel, who has worked at the agency since 1998, was recognized for outstanding customer service.

 

Sleep-Breathing Disorders Center

Robin Lisa McDonald of the Sleep-Breathing Disorders Center in Hagerstown recently passed the American Academy of Sleep Medicine certification examination.

McDonald has been a sleep technician for the past three years.

She performs overnight sleep testing to help diagnose and treat complex sleep disorders.

 

Sterling House, Clare Bridge Cottage

Dana Smiles has been named executive director of Alterra Sterling House and Clare Bridge Cottage at 10114 Sharpsburg Pike.

The assisted living residence designed for the memory impaired and the frail elderly is under construction and is expected to open in December.

Smiles previously worked as a nursing home administrator. She has 15 years experience in long-term care as a manager and consultant.
