C&O Canal Days schedule of events

Schedule for C&O Canal Days this weekend:

Friday, Aug. 27




7 to10 p.m.: The Holders wil perfom a variety of music for a free dance in Byron Memoria Park.

Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sunday, Aug. 29

Al day:

Trolley rides to the cana basin. Tickets are 50 cents each way and are available at the information booth.

Five- to 10-minute kiddie-train rides al over Byron Memoria park, $2.

U.S. Post Office Hub-Crusader Quality Work Life Team wil have a health awareness booth.

Cana Days cachet envelopes wil be sold, and the postmark wil be applied to items with first-class postage.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Arts and crafts market in Byron Memoria Park.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: South Mountain relic and coin club display, Community Building, Byron Memoria Park.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Blacksmith Mike Myers demonstrates his craft, Williamsport Visitor Center, C&O Cana Nationa Historica Park.

10 a.m.: Gilmore's Calvary Battalion and 35th Virginia Battalion on maneuvers, Williamsport Visitor Center.

Noon to 1:30 p.m.: Gilmore Light Ensemble plays 19th-century music, Williamsport Visitor Center.

Noon to 4 p.m.: "C&O Canal: That Magnificent Ditch" exhibit, loca history and memorabilia, Town Museum of Williamsport at Springfield Farm.

Noon to 5 p.m.: Cana boat and other exhibits on display, C&O Cana Museum, 139 W. Potomac St.

2 p.m.: Mike High wil lead a walk along the towpath. Tour departs from Williamsport Visitor Center.Continued from D1

2:30 to 4 p.m.: Gilmore Light Ensemble plays 19th-century music, Williamsport Visitor Center.

Saturday only, Aug. 28




10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Matchbox Productions' DJ Mike Rohrer plays music and makes announcements, band shell, Byron Memoria Park.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Demonstrations by Wildlife Rehabilitator Frank Galvin, Williamsport Visitor Center

Noon to 6 p.m.: Equipment displays, food and children's activities, Williamsport Fire Company, 2 Brandy Drive

1:30 to 2 p.m. Mike High wil sign copies of his book, "C&O Cana Companion"

2 p.m.: Williamsport: The Cana Town Tour

2 p.m.: Gilmore's Calvary Battalion and 35th Virginia Battalion on maneuvers, Williamsport Visitor Center

3 to 4 p.m.: Story time with Tearza under the old apple tree near Town Museum.

6 to 9 p.m.: An evening of music: Visitors are welcome to sing and play their instruments at Williamsport Visitor Center.

7 to 10 p.m.: Free "Wild West" poo party at L. Beard Miller Pool, Byron Memoria Park.

Sunday only, Aug. 29




11 a.m.: Kids Kontests, Williamsport Visitor Center

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Demonstrations by Wildlife Rehabilitator Frank Galvin, Williamsport Visitor Center

Noon to 4 p.m.: Classic Car Cruise-In outside Town Museum

Noon to 5 p.m.: Music by The Pioneers, Williamsport Visitor Center

1 to 2 p.m.: Mike High wil sign copies of his book, "C&O Cana Companion"

2 p.m.: The Williamsport Community Band wil perform in back of Byron Memoria Park.

2 p.m.: "Hurry was the Order of the Day": Civi War Historian Steve French wil discuss the Confederate wagon train that wounded Rebels rode to Williamsport from Gettysburg, Pa.
