Shepherdstown briefs

August 24, 1999

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia Division of Culture and History has rescheduled a Shepherdstown public meeting that was postponed two weeks ago.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m., at Reynolds Hall at Shepherd College.

State Museum staff and representatives of Christopher Chadbourne and Associates Inc., the Boston-based exhibition design firm contracted to oversee the renovation, will attend.

The meeting will give Eastern Panhandle residents an opportunity to tell state officials what they would like included in the new West Virginia State Museum at the Cultural Center in the State Capitol Complex.

The 23-year-old museum will undergo a facelift over the next two years. The history of the state will be told in the new museum through interactive, participatory displays that will appeal to visitors of all ages, a Division of Culture and History release said.

Expected cost of the renovation is $5 million.

"This is everyone's opportunity to tell us what they would like to see in their State Museum," said Renay Conlin, commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.

Public meetings were held in Charleston, Logan and Beckley this spring. A meeting in Morgantown is scheduled for Sept. 30.
