If you go...

August 15, 1999

If you go to the Boonsborough Museum of History:

n Directions

Take U.S. Alt. 40 South to Boonsboro. The museum is at 113 N. Main Street in dowtown Boonsboro.

n Cost

$2.50 for adults, $1.50 for children.

n Schedule

Bast gives tours throughout the year by appointment. The museum is open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. from May through September.

n Tips

You can cruise through his rooms quickly and find nice things you won't see elsewhere. If you're just blowing through, he has nice Civil War artifacts in his two front rooms that are easy to browse through, including a medical display, guns and people who were famous in the area.

Some things featured in the museum are items of Henry Kyd Douglas and John Brown. Also pieces of history from the founding of Boonsboro.

But if you have time, ask Bast to give you a tour of the place. Many of the museums artifacts are just lying around and don't seem significant.

But Bast's knowledge of the items can make an old doorknob interesting. For more information, call 301-432-6969.
