Heart Walk kickoff set for Aug. 26

The Keith Patterson Memorial Heart Walk kickoff will be Thursday, Aug. 26, at noon at Hagerstown City Park South Pavilion. Anyone interested in putting a team together or walking is invited to R.S.V.P. and attend the event.

This year's walk is in memory of last year's chair and community volunteer Patterson, who died last year from a massive heart attack.

The Keith Patterson Memorial Heart Walk will take place Saturday, Oct. 2, at Long Meadow Shopping Center. Participants of all ages are expected to join in the 2K walk. Walkers will collect donations to fund cardiovascular research. This year's goal is to raise $60,000. The American Heart Walk event is held at more than 1,000 locations nationwide.

Chambersburg Hospital offers childbirth class

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Hospital is offering a new, one-day, childbirth preparation class Saturday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Coldbrook Centre, Summit Home Health Conference Room, 176 S. Coldbrook Ave. It will be conducted by certified prenatal education instructors and is an alternative to the six-week class. The fee for this class is $40, which includes materials. Content includes relaxation and breathing exercises; labor and the roles of the mom and support person; pushing and working with your body; lifestyle changes of becoming a parent and a tour of the Birth Place. Motorcyclists to ride for Muscular Dystrophy

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Chapter of the Harley Owners Group and M&S Cycle will sponsor the 11th annual Motorcyclist Ride for Muscular Dystrophy Association Sunday, Aug. 29. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The last riders will finish around 4:30 p.m.

The starting point is M&S Cycles, 1431 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg. The finishing point is Waynesboro, Pa., Fish and Game.

Riders of all makes of motorcycles will gather pledges in advance to donate to MDA.

During the 83-mile ride, riders will stop at five checkpoints. At the end of the route, there will be prizes, a picnic, an auction and free entertainment.

Prizes include a millennium year 2000 Harley Davidson XL 883 Sportster Std.

The entry fee is $15 and is due the day of the ride. All proceeds will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Prostate cancer screening scheduled for Sept. 11

There will be a prostate screening program Saturday, Sept. 11, at John R. Marsh Cancer Center, Suite 129, green entrance, Robinwood Medical Center, 11110 Medical Campus Road, in conjunction with physicians of The Urological Center, PA and Washington County Health System Inc.

The screening is for men older than 40 who have not been screened within the past year. There is a $12 fee for a blood test. A rectal examination also will be performed. This service is limited to the first 200 men who call to register. To schedule an appointment, call 301-790-8663 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
