Pennsylvania water use restrictions

You cannot:

  • Water lawns.
  • Wash cars with hoses.
  • Fill or top off private pools.
  • Operate water fountains, artificial waterfalls or reflecting pools.
  • Wash down surfaces of garages, parking areas, sidewalks, streets, driveways or patios.
  • Water fairways on golf courses.
  • Water gardens with sprinklers.
  • Serve water in restaurants unless customers ask for it.
  • Burn anything in the open in Franklin County.


You can:

  • Wash cars with buckets.
  • Water newly seeded or sodded grass with a hand-held hose between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Water gardens between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Water only the tees and greens of golf courses between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Fill or top off public swimming pools serving 25 or more dwellings.
