Inmate charged after prison guard bitten

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police said a Franklin County Prison inmate was charged with aggravated assault Sunday after a corrections officer was bitten.

Police said Craig Eugene Monn, 22, was charged after guard Ronald Roland was bitten on the chest, breaking the skin, at 12:10 p.m.

 

2 injured when car runs off road

Two people escaped serious injury Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Sandy Hook Road when their car ran off the road and hit a guardrail at 3:25 a.m., Maryland State Police said.

Gary Albert Cool, 23, of 14821 N. Franklinville Road, Thurmont, Md., was the driver of a 1995 Mitsubishi, according to Trooper 1st Class Russ Plante.

Cool and the passenger, Tammy Jeannette Drake, 19, also of Thurmont, were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital. They were treated and released, a hospital supervisor said Tuesday evening.

 

Boy, 14, attacked by pit bull in Pa.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough police said a 14-year-old boy was bitten by a pit bull terrier Sunday as he rollerbladed past a house.

The report said the unnamed boy was bitten on the inside of his right knee in front of 138 S. Third St. at 9:15 p.m. Police said the dog lunged off the front porch of the house and attacked the boy.

The case was turned over to the county's Dog Law Officer for further investigation, police said.

 

Pool vandalism estimated at $300

A Hagerstown man's pool was vandalized Tuesday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies called to 33 Herb Road in Hagerstown at 2 p.m. for a report of vandalism found several vinyl top rail caps and side rails to a swimming pool had been damaged between July 31 and Aug. 1.

The pool is owned by James Leopold Asaro, 49, of the same address.

Damage was estimated at $300.

 

Crimes reported to Hagerstown police

The following crimes were reported to Hagerstown City Police Monday:

* Jewelry worth $2,550 was stolen from 251/2 W. Franklin St. A 17-inch, 14-carat gold chain worth $1,500, a ring with cut emeralds worth $150, a pair of1/2-carat diamond stud earrings worth $800 and a pair of diamond earrings worth $100 were taken.

* A 10-year-old, 10,000 BTU air conditioner was stolen from a window at Harvest Baptist Church at 951 Woodland Way. The air conditioner was valued at $75.

* The front passenger side window of a 1991 Dodge Ram van in a parking lot in the 900 block of Pope Avenue was smashed.

* Both passenger side tires of a 1998 Dodge in the 200 block of West Side Avenue were cut. The tires were valued at $100.
