Max D. Boward

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Max D. Boward, 76, of Route 1, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born May 23, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Jacob and Nellie Starliper Boward.

He retired from Potomac Edison.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Somers Boward; one son, Daniel Boward of Hedgesville; one sister, Peggy Carter of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Emory Boward of Carlisle, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hope Emery, Ruth DeHaven and Faith Shaffer; and three brothers, Charles Boward, Roger Boward and Kenneth Boward.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Berkeley County Humane Society, 1531 Charles Town Road, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Martin E. Durboraw

Martin E. Durboraw, 63, of 14832 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 18, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ellsworth L. and Ethel Laird Durboraw Rowe.

He was employed as a truck driver for Craig Paving in Hagerstown for 12 years. He then was a truck driver for Interstate Paving in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 and Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, both in Mercersburg, Pa., and Loyal Order of Moose 1191 in Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Mary E. Cook; one uncle; two stepaunts; one stepuncle; and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Ollen O. Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at 1 p.m.

John W. Rock

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - John William Rock, 79, of Blue Ridge Acres, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at his home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Welland, Ontario, Canada.

He retired as a builder in the construction industry.

He served in the Canadian army during World War II. He immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1958.

He is survived by his wife, Malvina V. Rock; two daughters, Joann Edwards of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Ann Merchant of Harpers Ferry; two sons, Michael Rock of Hanover, Pa., and Steven Breckenridge of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Lucille E. Frame

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lucille E. Frame, 76, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at her home.

Born May 27, 1923, in Fairmont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter Smith and Millia J. Hixenbaugh Smith Plotner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Dean Frame; and by her first husband, William H. Corbin.

She was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She was retired from the former McCrory's dime store.

She was a member of Four Mile Woods Full Chapel Pentecostal Church.

She was a member and past regent of women of the Moose Chapter 738 and AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Delores Jane Miller and Carole Henry, both of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, William H. Corbin Jr.; and one brother, John S. Smith.

Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gertrude H. Shrader

Gertrude H. Shrader, 73, of 433 S. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Feb. 8, 1926, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Grant V. and Bessie U. Faulder Myers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Shrader Jr., in 1995.

She was a buyer in the notions department and manager in budget dresses at Eyerly's Department Store; and manager in better dresses and foundations at Bon-Ton department store.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown, and was chairwoman of the Social Ministry Committee.
