Mr. Ketchum is the son of Roland and Lorelyn Ketchum of Honeoye Falls, N.Y. He is a 1989 graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School and a 1993 graduate of Bucknell University. He received his master's degree in 1996 and doctorate degree in 1998, both in molecular physiology and biological physics from the University of Virginia. He is a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he conducts research on cystic fibrosis.

Ms. Carter is the daughter of Janice Carter of Arbovale, W.Va., and Richard Carter of Buckingham, Pa. She is a 1995 graduate of Pocahontas County High School and a student in the nursing program at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va. She is employed by Valley Medical Transport as an emergency medical technician and is an aeromedical evacuation technician with 167th West Virginia Air National Guard.
Mr. Wachter is the son of Sylvia Wachter of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Gary and Linda Wachter, also of Berkeley Springs. He is a 1986 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and a 1991 graduate of Shepherd College with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He is pursuing a degree in education. He is employed by 167th Airlift Wing of West Virginia National Guard as a loadmaster.
