Crumbs from the Cracker Barrel

July 28, 1999

One of the first schools to be established in Washington County was started by Bartholomew Booth, a clergyman of the Church of England. Booth's school, located at Delemere where Beaver Creek meets Antietam Creek south of Hagerstown, opened late in the 1700s. Two of Booth's students were the sons of Benedict Arnold, a general in the American army during the Revolution.
