Air Force Airman Erica L. Gray, daughter of Kim L. Davis and Eric Gray, both of Frederick, Md., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Gray is a 1998 graduate of Frederick High School.




Air Force Airman Chadd H. Taylor, son of Gregory K. and Donna R. Taylor of Waynesboro, Pa., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Taylor is a 1997 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.




Army Pfc. Matthew J. Golden, whose wife, Christina Golden, is the daughter of Jimmy Hayes of Charles Town, W.Va., has arrived at Fort Knox, Ky., to complete basic combat training.




Navy Seaman Case D. Horn, son of Kevin R. Horn of Chambersburg, Pa., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Horn is a 1998 graduate of Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas.

Air Force Reserve Tech. Sgt. John L. Sheets, son of Donald L. and Janet R. Sheets of Berkeley Springs, , W.Va., has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of his duties on behalf of the Air Force. Sheets, an aircraft crew chief assigned to the 512th Aircraft Generation Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Del., is a 1980 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, received associates degrees in 1985 from the Community College of the Air Force, and in 1992 from Delaware Technical and Community College in Dover.




Air Force Airman Charla R. Tirey, daughter of Diane and Denny Marks of State Line, Pa., and Tom and Sandy Tirey of San Antonio, Texas, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Airman Tirey is at Sheppard Air Force Base for training as a medical assistant. In August she and her daughter, Alexis M. Tirey will transfer to Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. She is a 1998 graduate of Greencastle High School in Greencastle, Pa.




Coast Guard Cadet Thomas R. Widmyer, son of David R. and Janice M. Widmyer of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., recently enrolled as a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.




Marine Staff Sgt. Ronald L. Stephens, son of Gary and Betty Stephens of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently returned from a deployment to Panama while assigned with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.




Air Force Airman Stephen A. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Jones of Frederick, Md., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Jones is a 1993 graduate of Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in Kansas City, Kan.




Army Pvt. Ronald C. Cotton Jr., son of Kimberly J. and Rodney L. Cline and grandson of Ralph and Bertie Scroton, all of Greencastle, Pa., has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Ky., which included basic military training and advanced individual training.




Michael E. Cushwa, son of John W. and Evelyn P. Cushwa of Martinsburg, W.Va., has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program after graduating with a bachelor's degree from Western Maryland College, Westminster, Md. Cushwa is a 1995 graduate of Hedgesville High School, Hedgesville, W.Va.




Air Force Airman Morgan J. Bing, daughter of Jennet L. Bing of Philadephiaha, and John P. Starks of Chambersburg, Pa., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.




Air Force Airman Julie A. Jordan, daughter of Sharon A. Jordan and Douglas A. Jordan, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Jordan is a 1998 graduate of Southern Fulton High School in Warfordsburg, Pa.




Air Force Airman 1st Class Derek S. Gilbert, son of Felecia E. Gilbert of Manchester, Pa., and Stanley A. Gilbert of Chambersburg, Pa., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Gilbert is a 1997 graduate of Chambersburg High School.




Mayor William J. Leary, was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel n the Aviation Branch of the U.S. Army. Leary is serving as an active duty operations officer for the 87th Division (Training Support), United States Army Reserve in Birmingham, Ala. He was transferred to the Birmingham position from Fort Campbell, Ky. He has earned six Meritorious Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, a Senior Aviator Badge and an Air Assault Badge. Leary is a 1979 graduate of Waynesboro Area High School and a 1983 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa.
