Suns blast Boll Weevils

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Every starter got at least one hit as the Hagerstown Suns used a 15-hit attack for a convincing 11-3 victory over Piedmont on Tuesday.

Leadoff hitter Felipe Lopez had four hits and drove in three runs, while Ryan Fleming had two hits and also drove in three for the Suns (14-11, 62-34).

Hagerstown scored three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Joe Dusan hit an RBI double in the inning, the first of his two hits.

The Suns chased Piedmont starter Greg Kubes (9-8) in the fourth, scoring two more runs for a 5-2 lead. After Lopez doubled and Tyler Thompson reached on a fielder's choice, Fleming hit a two-run single.

Boll Weevils reliever Rendy Espina fared little better, giving up three runs to the Suns in the fifth and two more in the seventh. In the fifth, Jesse Zepeda singled, Dusan doubled, Jeff Maloney walked and Lopez hit a two-run single. Justin Davies then reached on a fielder's choice to score Maloney.

In the seventh, Davies reached on another fielder's choice, stole second and took third on a passed ball. After Thompson walked, Orlando Hudson hit a two-run double.

Pat Lynch (7-4) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out four to earn the win.
