Man gets 18 months for child sex abuse

July 15, 1999

A 35-year-old Williamsport area man was sentenced Thursday to serve 18 months in jail for a third-degree sex offense against an 8-year-old girl last summer.

Ronald Leroy Polley, of 15446 Falling Waters Road, had pleaded guilty to that crime last March before Washington County Circuit Judge Frederick Wright.

Wright originally imposed an eight-year prison sentence but suspended all but 18 months. He placed Polley on four years probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender when released from jail.

According to court records, Polley was accused in mid-August 1998 and charged after an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The incidents included touching and oral sex on the victim in addition to Polley exposing himself to the girl, court records said.

"Then he gave the girl $2 not to tell," said Assistant Washington County State's Attorney Mark Wolfe who prosecuted the case.

In exchange for the plea in March, additional charges of second- and fourth-degree sex offenses, child abuse, second-degree assault and indecent exposure were dropped.
