Roundup-National wins 9-10 district title

Marcellus Sumlin had four hits, including a home run, to lead National Little League to its first District 1 9-10-year-old All-Stars title with a 15-8 win over Frostburg on Tuesday.

Jason Sutherland had three hits, including a homer, and Chad Bikle had two hits for National, which advances to a best-of-three sectional matchup with the District 2 (Frederick) champion beginning Saturday.

Andrew Cook had two hits for Frostburg.

District 1 11-12 All-Stars

American 11, Valley 1: Leroy Dotson threw a four-hitter, while J.J. Myers and Charlie Kline each had two hits as American advanced to the semifinals. Matt Fortese had an RBI double for Valley.


National 7, Federal 4: Tim Bossler, A.J. Bandeff and winning pitcher Jeremy McAfee each had two hits as National moved into the semis. Bossler also homered. Matt Ridenour had two hits, including a home run, for Federal

Oakland 12, Clear Spring 7: Aaron Louden and Jason Weeks homered to lift Oakland over Clear Spring in a winner's bracket game. Loudenhad three hits, while Weeks and Corey Tressler each had two hits for the winners. Brad Turner, David Mills and Tim Weller each had two hits for Clear Spring.

Washington County Girls Softball

Aladdin Trophy 8, Bowman Trucking 7: Sarah Shelley and Emily Middlekauff each had two hits for Aladdin Trophy. Crystal Whittington had two hits and Chelsea Jolliffe had two hits for Bowman Trucking.

Colt League District Tournament

The Hagerstown Colt League hosts the District All-Star Tournament beginning tonight at Hellane Park. Waynesboro and Greencastle face off in the opener at 6 p.m., followed by Middletown and Hagerstown at 8:30.


Hub City/Pinesburg Softball

Pick's Place 38, Designs Unlimited 14: Steve McKimmy, Glenn Himes, Rocky Wills, Bill Bakner, Mick Byers and Calvin Staubs each had six hits for Pick's Place.

Hagerstown Billiards/Adam's Pizza 32, Lenox 2: Scott Remsburg hit for the cycle and finished with five hits along with Mike Green for Hagerstown Billiards/Adam's Pizza. Leon Allen and Denny Bryan each had four hits and a homer, while Jerry Springer, Alan Largent and Brian Koontz each added three hits for the winners. Koontz homered and Green allowed just three hits.

Ollie's/Ernst 24, Talley Metals 5: Scott Yeakle, Jim Fitz, Jeff Beatty and Chuck Mundey all had three hits for Ollie's/Ernst. Mike Weaver added a home run.

Yankees 16, Eddie's Detail 8: Mark Burger was 5-for-5, Pork Wallech was 4-for-4, while Doug Levine, Brent Taylor and Stan Shoop all had three hits for the Yankees.

Craig's Paving 21, South End Tavern 14: Mel Weaver went 4-for-4 with two homers to lead Craig's Paving. Rich Poffenberger, Bink Eichelberger and Lew Blenard had three hits, while Billy Ballenger, Mark Manuel, Brad Weaver and Nick Moats had two hits.

Dual Highway Motors 17, Gold's Gym 8: Kevin Fuller and Rick Bean had four hits, while Jack Duffey, Jason Stotler, Jeff White and Mike Zimmerman all had three hits for Dual Highway Motors. White homered.

Hagerstown Area Church Softball

Christ Reformed/St. James Brethren 6, New Life 3: Eric Hahn had three hits and Alan Moore added two for Christ Reformed/St. James. John Davidson had three hits and Arley McNeill had two for New Life.

Otterbein 22, Bethel 10: Todd Dunkle hit three home runs and Larry Wisherd had five hits for Otterbein. Dunkle, Kevin Walters and Josh Trumpower had four hits apiece for the winners. Trumpower also homered.

Tri-State Fellowship 28, Williamsport Assembly of God 12: Mike Kelbaugh and Todd Streett both had six hits to lead Tri-State Fellowship. Mike Koontz, Jeff Wetzel and Danny Fraker had five hits, while Jim Knodle, James Knodle and Tony Crawford had four hits. Kevin Green had three hits for Williamsport Assembly of God.
