Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I thought the fireworks display at the Potomac Fish and Game Club was really nice and we really enjoyed it."

"I am calling in reference to someone finding a watch in the Weis parking lot at K-Mart shopping center and I think it is mine. My number is 301-223-9052."

"I am calling about the comments made about the problems on Maugans Avenue and that the city needs to straighten that mess out. Unfortunately, that is outside the city limits so you need to contact your County Commissioners or your state delegate or a State Highway Department official."

"Nine chances out of ten, I bet that the person who thinks that it is wrong for the Suns wanting a church bulletin to get into the game at a discount price, checks the papers for sales and uses their coupons for discounts. What is the difference? I know I watch for discounts."

"I was sad when I didn't see the flag on the square in Smithsburg on July 4. Get with it, Mr. Mayor, we want our town to participate with all holidays, like other towns."

"Will the person who found my black umbrella with Time magazine decorations on it, at the Robinwood Medical Center, please return it to the center."

"I am concerned about the pet owners who leave their pets out in this extreme heat conditions. The SPCA wants you to take care of your pets and when you call them they want a history of who is calling, why you are calling. It is not fair to the poor animals."

"I want to remind the patients of Dr. E.W. Ditto III, he has a birthday coming up July 24. Send him a card and wish him a happy birthday."

"I saw in the paper where someone says that the government seems to be so hooked on taxing cigarettes, I wish they would tax them a little more. Some of these younger people that buy booze and cigarettes, why don't they help their elders with their medications instead of on booze and cigarettes."

"About the purse being taken to the guard booth at Pangborn Park, why didn't they just take it to the police station? Someone looks into that purse, they will take valuable things and valuable money out of it."

"I am calling about the cigarette hike on our cigarettes, people wise up and go to Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania. Do not pay Maryland that doggone tax!"

"To the person who called in about the HMOs, they don't know their facts. Everybody in Washington County was paying $75 a month premium. Research your facts before you make statements like that."

"I am reading Tuesday's paper, page A5 in the upper left hand quadrant under staying cool. Set the air conditioner no lower than 78 degrees. A good rule of thumb is to cool the house no more than 10 to 12 degrees below the outside temperature. I passed elementary arithmetic, that means that I should be living in glorious 90 to 92 degree temperatures. This is what I am going to have to send to my friends outside the area, because they don't believe some of the things that your paper prints, not that I do, either."

"I would like to thank the person who stole the little kids go-cart off West Side Avenue, I hope your kid is happy with it, it is pretty bad when a parent has to steal their kids a toy."
