Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Larch Avenue was quiet for a few days after the drug bust. Now they are back and the same stuff is going on. The house looks like a dump."

"I lost a Beetle watch in the Weis Market lot in the K-Mart shopping center. My number is 301-223-9052."

"The grand finale at the Long Meadow Shopping Center fireworks was really great this year."

"I would like to ask whoever took the flag and flag stand off my wife's grave at Rest Haven Cemetery, along with the two other things, if they would please return them. If one of your children brings home a stand with an Eagle flag on it and a bolt on the end of it, you will know that it doesn't belong to them. Whoever did it, please return it. My wife died a year ago. This is the fourth time that someone took something off her grave. You have to realize one of these days your parents are going to die and you are going to want to put something on that grave, then somebody is going to take it off. You might be very angry about it. It is a good thing that I am a Christian man or I would wait out there for you, but that is against my religion and I can't do that. It is your conscience and if you feel guilty, put it back!"

"I was down at Long Meadow Shopping Center Saturday and it was very hot. It was around 1:30 and I fell. There were two nice girls that came along. They helped me up and took me over to my car. I wanted to thank them very much."

"I am 15 years old and I saw something the other night on Mitchell Avenue which terrified me. My parents taught me to respect the police. How can I when they had a person on the sidewalk, hands tied behind his back, they pepper sprayed him, beat him bad? The guy was yelling 'please don't hit me no more.' I thought they were going to beat him until he died. I cannot respect the police any more. Call in if you saw this."

"I was reading where a person said about if people would not go to Atlantic City they would have the money for the medicine. Let me tell you something, I am on a fixed income, I pay $394 a month on medicine. I am just an ordinary guy. If anybody would have told me 20 years ago that this was going to happen to me, I probably would have hit them in the mouth. I thought that it would happen down the street, across the street, up the street, but not to me. But it did happen to me. I thank the good Lord that I have my head above water. It has been two months since I had my wife out to supper. All of our money goes to medication for her and myself. For the person who said this, I hope and pray to God that you don't get in this situation that I am in. I am not griping about not having the money and spending it all on the medicine. I thank God that I do have the money for the medicine. I can't take her out to eat or to Atlantic City. I don't even go out of Hagerstown. I am going to pray for you because you are going to need it. You are like I was, 'It is never going to happen to you.' Well, it can happen to you!"

"I'd like to thank Coldwell Banker, the local real estate firm, for putting the small American flags on the front yards of the homes in the city's North End. It was really neat to wake up on the Fourth of July and see all the flags in the yards. Someone must have done that in the middle of the night to get all those flags in the ground. It was greatly appreciated. Thank you."
