Dora Mae Shaffer Lake

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Dora Mae Shaffer Lake, 72, of 291 Mount Cydonia Road, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital. Born June 21, 1927, in Fort Loudon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Emma Jane Yeager Murray.

She was employed at Stanley Co. of Chambersburg for 26 years. She was last employed at Burger King in Chambersburg.

She attended Spirit of Christ Community Church of Chambersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda J. Leonard of Fayetteville; two sisters, Patsy J. Cline of Chambersburg and M. Pauline Hammond of Fannettsburg, Pa.; four brothers, Garnet E. Yeager of Norristown, Pa., Charles W. Murray of Fort Loudon, Pa., George E. Murray of Chambersburg and Fred L. Murray of St. Thomas, Pa.; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. W. K. Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald H. Mellott

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Donald H. "Smoke" Mellott, 53, of 3 E. Main St., died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at the Martinsburg (W.Va.) Veterans Affairs Center.

Born Dec. 28, 1945, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Lloyd M. and Ethel Mae North Mellott.

He attended Quincy schools and received his GED.

He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a mechanic; and then at Regency Thermographers Inc., Waynesboro.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served three tours in Vietnam. He received two Purple Hearts.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; and William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695, both of Waynesboro.

He is survived by one son, Donald E. Mellott of Mercersburg, Pa.; three sisters, Martha L. Figur of Rochester, N.Y., Genevieve L. McDonough of Hagerstown, and Lucinda K. Freeman of Fayetteville, Pa.; five brothers, Lewis M. Mellott of Marysville, Calif., Kenneth L. Mellott and Larry Nelson Mellott, both of Chambersburg, Lloyd Robert Mellott and James Raymond Mellott, both of Fayetteville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Misner; and a brother, Ronald Mellott.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble will officiate. Burial will be in Knobsville Cemetery, Fulton County, Pa., with military services by Charles M. Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 Honor Guard of Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Anna Belle Bowman

WILLIAMSPORT - Anna Belle Lena Bowman, 87, of Williamsport Retirement Village, and formerly of 333 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born April 24, 1912, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Bertha Stafford Pangle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Bowman.

She attended Hagerstown High School.

She was employed at Rosen's Department Store, retiring after more than 25 years.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda B. Mason of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary Jane Appenzellar of Chambersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Katherine Rhodes, Marguerite Sweeney, Eudora Chrisman and Charlotte Greene.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ginny Brown Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ's Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Alex Dessel

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Alex Dessel, 84, of 645 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Manorcare Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born March 21, 1915, in New York City, he was the son of the late Morris and Sarah Dessel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Miraim Dessel, on March 10, 1993.

He worked for the U. S. Post Office; at the Raritan Arsenal, Metuchen, N.J.; and at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, where he retired as chief of the printing plant in 1980.

He was a member of the Congregation Sons of Israel, Chambersburg.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Dessel of Doylestown, Pa., and Stewart Dessel of Chambersburg; one daughter, Phyllis Jacobi of Wyomissing, Pa.; two brothers, Julius Dessel and Benjamin Dessel, both of Edison, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
