Suns mauled by Alley Cats

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Charleston Alley Cats collected 17 hits and chased Hagerstown starter Pat Lynch with a pair of home runs in the fifth inning in a 9-3 win over the Suns at Watt Powell Park on Monday.

Lynch (6-3) allowed six runs on 11 hits in four-plus innings, walked two and struck out two.

The Suns (2-3, 50-26) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Orlando Hudson and a run-scoring single by Ryan Fleming.

The Alley Cats (3-2, 33-44) got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Michael Curry walked, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on David Goodwin's single.

Charleston took the lead in the second. Corey Hart drove in Rod Metzler, who had singled, with a sacrifice fly. David DiPace later scored on a passed ball.


Merrell Ligons homered to lead off the Charleston fifth, and Goodwin followed with a triple. Brian Shackelford, who did in the Suns on Saturday, crushed a two-run homer to right to give the Alley Cats a 6-2 lead.

The Suns got their final run in the eighth on a Matt Logan RBI single.

Joe Delgado (1-0) got the win for the Alley Cats, holding the Suns to four hits and two runs in six innings.
